who secured 60% in PCM in 12th they can do DNS ( DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE) for this you have to qualify net exam to take by INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY one a year ,i will suggest you for secure job in merchant navy first get SPONSOR from big company's or small company's many companies provide sponsorship ,like MSC,v shipping,etc ,this DNS course is for one year.

Who did not score or taken science in 12 the std, they can do BSC for 3 years, again I will suggest you, sponsor, first, you can directly enter in this no exam taken by any institute.
